Bharatnatyam is the oldest among the all classical dance of India. This dance name made of Bha-Ra-Ta. In which from Bha mean Bhav, Ra – Raga and Ta stands to Taal. And there is also natya word in Bharatnatyam which means classical theatre. The origin of this style is in south India. This dance consist multiple items e.g. nritta, abhinay, and also nritya. Nritta means pure dance movements, abhinay means dramatic art of story telling and nritya means combination of Nritta and abhinay.

Bharatnatyam dance form evolve from Dev dasi cult an tradition. Previously this style also known as Sadir, Bashiattam and also Tanjuranatyam. In This style initially solo female dance dominates. But after some time males are also coming in this dance. Carnatic music is play to do the Bharatnatyam.

Costume of this style are silk sari, Kanchipuram saree also with different kinds of plates to do Aramandi ( The knee posture). This dance is also known as fir dance because rhythmic movements seems like fire flames. In Bharatnatyam expression have also very important role.

In this style singing is not combine with dancing. Ek charya lasya anga style is one of the dancer play many different roles. Famous artist of this style are Chiniya, Ponniah Pillai, Vedi Velu and also the Shiva Nanda. These four are the main guru of This style.
